Zainal Abidin bin Jamal
Non-Independent Non-Executive Director (Chairman)

Zainal Abidin bin Jamal was appointed as Chairman of Maybank Islamic Berhad on 1 June 2017. He has been a Director of Maybank Islamic since 28 January 2010. Prior to that, he was a Director of Malayan Banking Berhad from July 2009 until April 2014, where he also served as a member of the Credit Review Committee, Nomination and Remuneration Committee, and Employees’ Share Scheme Committee of the Board. He was also previously Chairman of Maybank Trustees Berhad and a Director of Etiqa Takaful Berhad.

Zainal Abidin is a practicing corporate and commercial lawyer with Messrs. Zainal Abidin & Co, where he is the Founder and Senior Partner. He also serves on the Boards of Sime Darby Plantation Berhad and Lam Soon (M) Berhad.

Dali Kumar @ Dali bin Sardar
Independent Non-Executive Director

Dali Kumar @ Dali bin Sardar was appointed as a Director of Maybank Islamic on 11 August 2014.

Dali’s specific areas of expertise include financial & corporate restructuring and conventional banking derived from his vast working experience. He served as Relationship Manager at Citicorp/ Citibank and was also attached to the Leveraged Buyouts ('LBO') and Venture Capital Groups at Citibank New York. Upon his return to Malaysia, he was seconded to Citicorp Capital Sdn Bhd where he served as the Vice President of Citicorp/Citibank in 1990 and as the Executive Director of Citicorp Capital until 1993 where he was eventually promoted as its Managing Director in 1994. Dali also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Utama Merchant Bank Berhad in 1996.

He sits as a director of Chuan Huat Resources Bhd, a company listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia and Malaysian General Investment Corporation (MGIC) Bhd as well as on several boards of foreign companies such as Norhtec Corporation Ltd, Thailand and M Development Ltd, Singapore.

Dali is currently the director of DTA Capital Group which is a venture capital/private equity and corporate finance set-up involved in mainly venture fund management, direct equity investments, debt raising, Mergers & Acquisitions, pre-IPO planning and various forms of corporate & financial restructuring.

Datuk Mohd Anwar bin Yahya
Independent Non-Executive Director

Datuk Mohd Anwar bin Yahya was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Maybank Islamic on 17 July 2017.

Datuk Anwar is an accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA). He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Economics & Accountancy from the University of Hull, United Kingdom. He was with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for more than 25 years where he held financial and business advisory roles for various projects in different industries.

He currently serves on the Boards of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad and Fraser & Neave Holdings Berhad.

Associate Professor Dr Aznan Hasan
Non Independent Non-Executive Director

He was appointed as the Chairman of the Shariah Committee on 1 May 2014 and a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director 25 April 2019 at Maybank Islamic.

Dr Aznan received his first degree in Shariah from the University of al-Azhar and a Master’s degree in Shariah from Cairo University with distinction (Mumtaz). He then obtained his PhD from the University of Wales, Lampeter, United Kingdom.

Currently, he is the President of the Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASAS), the Deputy Chairman of the Shariah Advisory Council of Securities Commission, a Board member of Higher Shari’ah Authority of UAE Central Bank, and a committee member of Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI). He had served as member of the Shariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia (2006-2008 and 2010-2013).

He serves as a member of the Shariah Advisory Board/Shariah Committee for Amanahraya Berhad, Employee Provident Fund, and Sedania As-Salam Capital Sdn Bhd. He also serves as a Shariah consultant/adviser to Maybank Investment Bank, Hong Leong Islamic Bhd, Public Investment Bank Bhd, Malacca Securities Bhd, Jupiter Securities Bhd, Inter-Pacific Bhd and Amanah Hartanah Bumiputra. He is a registered Shariah Advisor for the Islamic Unit Trust Schemes and Islamic securities (Sukuk), Securities Commission of Malaysia. Additionally, Dr Aznan serves as the Chairman of the Shariah Committee at Etiqa Takaful Berhad, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad.

Dr Aznan also serves as a member of the Shariah Advisory Boards of ABSA Islamic Bank (South Africa), FNB Bank (South Africa), Yasaar Limited (London), HSBC Amanah (Dubai), and Standard Chartered (Global).

Dato’ Zulkiflee Abbas Abdul Hamid
Independent Non-Executive Director

Dato’ Zulkiflee Abbas Bin Abdul Hamid was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Maybank Islamic Berhad effective on 25 April 2019.

Dato’ Zulkiflee started his career with Maybank in 1981, and has held various positions in Enterprise Banking, Corporate Banking, International Banking and Credit Management, including postings at Maybank offices in London and New York.

Dato’ Zulkiflee was appointed as Managing Director/President of Bank Rakyat in April 2017 where he led a strategic plan to steer Bank Rakyat to greater heights with focus on strategic initiatives involving financing and deposits as well as improving fee based income and tightening its cost management. Dato’ Zulkiflee retired from Bank Rakyat on 2 April 2019.

Aside from serving the banking industry, Dato’ Zulkiflee also contributes to the community through his roles as:

En. Shariffuddin Khalid
Independent Non-Executive Director

En. Shariffuddin was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director (“INED”) of Maybank Islamic Berhad effective on 13 June 2019.

En. Shariffuddin is a Fellow Member of The Chartered Institute of Management Accounts, United Kingdom. He has over 30 years’ experience in the banking and corporate sector, serving in key positions in the corporate services, business development, corporate communications and human resource functions.

He was also part of the pioneer team tasked with the establishment of Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Berhad (“Danaharta”) during the 1998 Asian financial crisis. He then joined Bank Negara Malaysia (“BNM”) in 2008 as pioneer Director of the Malaysia International Islamic Finance Centre (“MIFC”) and served for nearly 10 years and the last position he held was Director, Strategic Communications reporting directly to the Governor of BNM.

Within Maybank Group, En. Shariffuddin is an INED of Maybank and Maybank (Cambodia) Plc effective from June 2018 and March 2019, respectively. Currently he also sits on the Board of Marine & General Berhad, a public company listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia, as well as its subsidiaries.
